Why our cling wrap has a detachable blade

Ever wondered why our cling wrap box has a detachable blade instead of the metal strip you're used to? Short version: the film is too tough for it.

A wrap that actually works

When we developed ZERO Cling Wrap, we had one non-negotiable. It had to stretch, cling and seal like the cling wrap people already use. A compostable wrap that tears when you don't want it to, or won't stick to the bowl, ends up back in the drawer.

So we made the film strong. Really strong.

Too strong for a metal cutter

That strength caused a problem we didn't expect. When we tried a standard metal cutter strip, the film didn't tear cleanly. Instead, the metal strip either bent the box or pulled away from it.

So we designed a detachable blade that cuts the film cleanly, every time.

What to do with the blade

The blade is detachable for a reason. When the roll is finished:

1. Remove the blade from the box.
2. Compost the box and any leftover film. ZERO Cling Wrap is certified home compostable (DIN CERTCO and TÜV Austria OK compost HOME).
3. Dispose of the blade separately. Don't put it in your compost.

About the film

ZERO Cling Wrap is made from bioplastic: mainly PLA made from sugarcane (bagasse), with about 20% PBAT for stretch. In compost, it breaks down fully to CO2, water and biomass, so unlike conventional plastic film it doesn't persist. It comes in 30 m and 60 m rolls, from $6.99.
